Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is in a wooded area behind the South Tower, a bit of William Penn’s green country town in a busy modern city. This well-maintained facility is open from mid-May until mid-September. Hours: Monday-Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Friday: 10:30 a.m. till 10:00 p.m.; Saturday and holidays: 9:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m.

Since space surrounding the pool is limited, memberships are permitted only to residents and non-resident owners. Tenants may join, provided their landlord (unit owner) is NOT using the membership rights assigned. The number of adult memberships is restricted as follows:

  • 2 Memberships Efficiency Unit
  • 2 Memberships Nonresident Owners
  • 3 Memberships One Bedroom Unit
  • 4 Memberships Two Bedroom Unit

ONLY pool members have Guest privileges. No unit owner or resident who is NOT a member can be a Guest of a member. All Guests are subject to a Guest fee whether swimming, sunning or partaking of a picnic.

To apply for Pool Membership, please complete the attached form and mail it, along with your check to the Management Office at 285 St. James Place, Philadelphia, PA 19106. You may also give your application and fee, in a sealed envelope, to the Desk Clerk who will then forward it to the Management Office. NO CASH CAN BE ACCEPTED.

  • 10:30 AM TO 10:00 PM Friday
  • 9:00 AM TO 10:00 PM Saturday
  • 9:00 AM TO 9:30 PM Sunday

A Pool Membership Card is maintained at the Pool Desk. When you enter the pool, you will register by signing and dating the Pool Log Sheet.

General Rules

1. Control of the pool facility is subject to the discretion of the lifeguards and pool manager at the direction of Management and Council. All members must agree to abide by these Rules and Regulations, which are enforced for the health, safety and welfare of the members.

2. Any pool member who violates the Rules and Regulations of the Society Hill Towers Swimming Pool is subject to revocation of all pool privileges with no refund of fees paid.


1. Membership is limited to residents and nonresident owners of Society Hill Towers.

2. Nonresident owners that do not apply for membership may assign that right to their tenant.

3. The following schedule governs the maximum number of memberships permitted:

  • 2 Memberships Efficiency Unit
  • 2 Memberships Nonresident Owners
  • 3 Memberships One Bedroom Unit
  • 4 Memberships Two Bedroom Unit

4. Memberships are NOT transferable.

5. All membership cards are on file at the Pool. Members and their guest(s) must register each time they enter the Pool by Signing the Pool Log Sheet.


1. Only members have guest privileges.

2. Unit owners or any resident of the Towers cannot be a guest of a member of the pool.

3. All guests that enter the pool area for any activity are subject to a Guest Fee.

4. Guests arriving after 5:00 PM pay a reduced Guest Fee. Guests paying the Limited Guest Privilege Fee MUST wear street clothes and may not use the pool.

5. Members are responsible for the behavior of their Guests and should acquaint them with the Rules and Regulations of the pool.

6. A pool member must accompany guests or the pool member.


1. Children 12 years of age and younger MUST be accompanied by an adult whenever using the pool facilities, including the grassy areas.

2. Children that are not fully trained, but secured with rubber garments, are permitted in the pool.

3. Infants must be changed in the Locker Room only. Changing tables have been provided for this.

4. On weekends, when needed, there will be a 15-minute QUIET TIME each hour, when the pool will be cleared of children to facilitate adult-only swimming.

5. Parents are responsible for the behavior of their children. Misbehavior by children will be brought to the attention of the parents and may result in the cancellation of pool privileges.

6. Society Hill Towers Owners Association will not be held responsible for any unattended children.

Pool-Side Rules

1. Chairs are available on a first-come-first-served basis and may NOT be reserved in advance.

2. Appropriate swimming attire must be worn at the pool at all times. Swimwear must be covered when entering or exiting any of the Towers buildings.

3. Earphones MUST be used with all radios, televisions and/or other audio equipment.

4. Running, pushing, dunking, playing ball or horseplay is not permitted within the pool grounds.

5. Large floats of any type are NOT permitted in the pool at any time.

6. Cigarette smoking is not permitted in the pool area. 7. The Lifeguard has the right to remove anyone failing to obey the rules, displaying loud, rude, inconsiderate or improper behavior at the Pool area.
Food and Grills

1. Food is permitted in the Pool area. It is the responsibility of the members and their guests to clean up after themselves. Trash must be disposed of in the trash containers provided.

2. No glassware or breakable dishes are permitted in the Pool area.

3. Grills and/or portable cooking devices are not to be brought into the Pool area. Only the gas-fired grills provided by the Association may be used.

4. A reservation must be made for the use of the grill. Use of the grills is restricted to those who paid the seasonal grill fee of $60.

5. Grills may NOT be used before 4:45 PM. Grill use is limited to 45 minutes.

Pool Parties

1. A reservation must be made, in advance, for any party over 10 people. No more than 20 people are permitted, per party.

2. No more that 2 parties will be permitted on any evening.
